How and where it all began

The Greenock Arts Guild was founded 1946 as a receiving house for touring shows, a producing house (with half the performances produced and performed by amateur groups) and a place for classes and workshops in music, art and drama.

The Guild served the local community brilliantly from 1947 until 2012 before the Beacon opened its doors in2013, providing a new home for the Greenock Arts Guild and an evolving future. Our new iconic waterfront venue, designed by LDN Architects is a key cultural component of the regeneration of Inverclyde's former industrial land, maintaining and extending the cultural life in Greenock by means of a new, contemporary and accessible venue for the whole community.
